In basic terms, ("psychic") energy is everywhere, is everything. Our will is able to manipulate the energy, be it for healing, knowledge or anything else.
"Why doesn't everyone do it then?" because it sounds "ridiculous" and because it takes years of practice to have decent and constant results, speaking of telekinesis kind of abilities. Otherwise it happens or doesn't happen or happens weirdly.
Now if you're not looking for flashy stuff, but for practical, that's where it comes in handy - but mostly relies on your sensing abilities, which of course, need practice. One example of practical, Fenwick Rysen and his associates came up with a Sigil, named Fotamecus, that is able to compress/expand time. Now, it won't give you 12 hours within 5 minutes, but if you want to shorten a trip or need those extra couple of minutes to not be late - it helps, saved my hide a couple of times.
Pffft. I don't need sigils to alter time, I can do that just through concentration. Well, technically speaking I'm only altering my perception of time. That said, so are the rest of you.
As per whether psionics are real: In the sense that this wiki would have you believe and to the extent that people here want to claim: No. In the sense of being able to get more out of your mind and body than you have by default: Yes. The vast, vast majority of people can't do anything at all besides delude themselves into perceiving things that aren't there or crafting personal tulpas, lame useless things like that. And the vast majority of people go for the "big powers" which I have never seen conclusive proof of someone being able to perform. This is not impressive, this is just a hobby for imaginative folk.
For actual things you can do, here's a list of "powers" you can train yourself to do: - Alter your perception through meditation alone. - Alter your state of mind through meditation and sensory tricks. - Resist cold. ( Not the same as cryokinesis and it involves training your body too. ) - Resist or even ignore pain. - Alter your perception of time. - Heighten reflexes. ( By tapping into your mind and body's survival reflexes without having to actually be in danger. ) - Alter your metabolism. - Increase or decrease healing ability. - Heightened empathy/emotion reading. - Hypnosis & Auto-hypnosis - Mental influence through heightened suggestion and subliminal messaging. ( Con-men get great use out of this one. )
Here's some that I've seen inconclusive evidence for: - Weak intuitive prognostication. ( It's hard to measure this one. Think of it like "spidey-senses". These seem to exist. ) - Weak electrokinesis ( Mostly interfering with electronics, I've not seen anyone be able to control this with enough accuracy to do anything useful. ) - Weak tychokinesis. ( It's hard to measure this one too. )
Here's some that I've never seen verifiable evidence for: - Pyrokinesis. - Cryokinesis. - Non-magnetic telekinesis. ( I've seen cases of manipulation of small amounts of ferromagnetic material that could be psi. ) - Effective blind telepathy. ( As in, communicating with someone when line-of-sight is broken. ) - Effective explicit prognostication. ( Exact, non-cryptic narrations of future events as a prediction or as a vision. )
If you're training these without training your body to accomodate them though, you're going to be SoL on actually getting anything done. And not everyone can actually pull these off. There's no guarantee that you'll ever manage any of these, Basically all of the "cool" things, I've never seen anyone do without faking it. And you'll see that a lot on this wiki - people who have altered their perception or made a tulpa and then consider that "success" in the skill that they claim to be training. ( A user making a cold spot and feeling it and calling it cryokinesis. No the fuck it's not. If it can't be observed by thermal camera or by other people's perception without suggestion, it's not cryokinesis. It might be auto-hypnosis or maybe they've actually managed to affect their sensation, but that's not the same thing. )
A big, big, big thing to keep in mind here. Creating a tulpa is not psychokinesis. At least, not by itself. If you can affect the world around you with your tulpa, that's psychokinesis. A lot of people like to treat creating a tulpa like some great feat of psi when anyone with average to above average ability to focus can do it. It's just a thoughtform. They're not terribly impressive on their own and they don't really affect much. In fact, the original sources for the word "tulpa" are Tibetan monastic sources in which the goal is to create a tulpa and then disspell it, realizing it's only a construct of your own mind. People who couldn't distinguish that their tulpa wasn't "actually real" were considered to have failed the exercise and were generally considered lost. The whole point was to realize that you can create thought-constructs so convincing that they seem like manifest gods when they're nothing at all and that was a distraction from enlightenment.
"I can affect time without a sigil. Wait no I can't so you can't either." lovely logic. Time =/= time perception.
And regarding tulpas...their origin is very different than "imaginary friends" and shouldn't be considered as such. Not exactly a thoughtform, these aren't supposed to be given specific characteristics like the tulpas. The monks in Tibet didn't create them just to "dispel them" either, they were often used to empower one's spirit by cultivating a lot of power into it and then assimilating back into yourself. You're effectively creating a new being and devouring it for its power, cool innit? Or do you say "Immoral"? Pretty bold to presume knowing what's immoral for a spirit, for all you know, might = right.
No. Psionics is not real. Humans cannot move objects with their minds. Nor is it a good idea for humans to move things with their minds. Humans are inherently impulsive creatures, and the damage people can cause with such power is too much to think about.
If you don't believe in this stuff than why did you bother coming to this site?
It is very much real, just not exactly "psychic" or "psionic". What people call "psi energy" is just another term for bio-electricity which is something we need in order to survive. Through practice, we can learn to use and control our bioelectromagnetic field to interact with our surrounding environment.
